A round-the-world trip of over 40,000 km!

40,075 kilometres, or 21,638 miles: that's the Earth’s circumference and the reference distance around the world.

A round trip achieved in 74 days and 3 hours during the last edition of the Vendée Globe.

This planetary voyage is above all a climatic journey down the Atlantic, across the Indian Ocean and the Pacific, then up the Atlantic again... It involves a departure from Les Sables d'Olonne in mid-autumn, a journey through the South Seas in the middle of the austral summer and a return to the Vendée during the winter.

Events along the route

The lone sailors have to deal with wind, waves, rough seas and ice. So the boats' trajectory is really a series of broken lines, zigzags, detours and changes of course! And along the way, they'll pass through key crossing points, deal with some tough weather conditions and come across some incredible wildlife and plants.
